Welcome

The Exercise for Health Summit returns for its second edition at the European Parliament in Brussels. This high-level gathering will bring together policymakers, healthcare leaders, and the fitness and physical activity sector to advance the role of exercise as a cornerstone of public health.

Aim

Physical inactivity is a leading driver of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) and premature death, placing a heavy burden on people, healthcare systems, our economy and society. Despite strong evidence on the health benefits of regular physical activity, it remains overlooked in many public health strategies.

The fitness and physical activity sector holds untapped potential to support disease prevention, improve health outcomes, and strengthen healthcare systems. To unlock this potential, closer collaboration with policymakers and the wider health community is essential.

Our sector is shifting the conversation from fitness to health and advocating for physical activity as a recognised, proven and cost-effective tool for public health.

This event aims to bridge the gap between sport and health policy, creating a platform for structured dialogue, knowledge-sharing, and collaboration. By aligning efforts, improving skills, and leveraging data-driven insights, together we can build a healthier, more active Europe.

Programme Highlights

The summit will feature keynote speeches, panel discussions, testimonials, and examples of good practice around three key themes:

    1. Physical Inactivity and Health Impact
Physical inactivity remains one of the leading risk factors for NCDs and premature mortality across Europe. This session will highlight the burden of inactivity on economies, public health, and quality of life, and the role the fitness and physical activity sector can play as a credible partner in prevention, management, and care of chronic health conditions.

    2. Technology and Innovation
Fitness wearables, apps, and digital solutions are transforming our approach to health – empowering individuals, generating valuable data, and driving more personalised care. On the backdrop of the European Health Data Space, this theme explores how technology can enhance access to physical activity, inform policymaking, and strengthen cross-sector collaboration.

    3. Bridging Health and Exercise
As healthcare systems face rising rates of chronic disease and adopt new tools such as GLP-1 medications, there is a timely opportunity to reaffirm the essential role of physical activity in prevention and long-term health. This theme examines how exercise can complement medical approaches and be more effectively integrated into public health policy and healthcare pathways.
